Looking At Islam
Islam claims to be a 'Religion of Peace'. Is it?
In pragmatic America, we tend to judge people, organizations and religions by actions, rather than words: "If it walks like a duck and quacks ... etc."
• We look at the response of those who practice a faith, when some of their flock commit evil. Do they speak out loudly against the perpetrators?
Moderate Muslims seem to be strangely silent when the horror of radical Islamists takes over the news.
• We examine what reforms are made to correct doctrinal errors and prevent violence.
With Islam, there don't seem to be any.
• We observe the attitude of a religion's adherents when someone outside their faith is in trouble.
While Christians - and others - will rush in to help when disaster strikes in some god-awful Third World country, Muslims seem passive. Except when they were cheering the Holocaust. Or trying to eradicate Israel.
From time to time, this blog has posted Islam-related items. I have listed some of them here on one page. Seen together, these items show a disturbingly intolerant and often violent behavior pattern.
If this is not the case, it is time for some those oft-invisible moderate Muslims to take a stand against the radical element.

Book Review: 'The Closing Of The Muslim Mind: How Intellectual Suicide Created the Modern Islamist Crisis' by Robert R. Reilly
At just over 200 pages, this is a very short book. But it's a dense book and requires one's full attention. The book reads like a history textbook and almost demands a semester to assimilate it.
This book makes for a tough read because there are no humorous anecdotes to lighten-up the content and there are no happy endings offered. It begins with a description the original ideas that eventually inspired Islam's self-inflicted intellectual decapitation. Initially ... (more >>>)
Welcome To Londinistan: The Gatestone Institute has reported on the striking rate of closures of churches in the United Kingdom's capital city, a trend mirrored elsewhere in Europe, and the blooming number of mosques that have been established in their stead.
"London is more Islamic than many Muslim countries put together," said Maulana Syed Raza Rizvi, one of the Islamic preachers who now lead 'Londonistan'.
Since 2001, 500 London churches of all denominations have been closed. During the same period, 423 new mosques have been established. Between 2012 and 2014, the proportion ... (more >>>)
ISIS Terror Comes To Florida: Armed shooter Omar Mir Seddique Mateen called the cops to pledge his fealty to ISIS as he was carrying out his mass murderer at a gay nightclub in Orlando early Sunday morning. Sadly, at least 50 people are dead so far and more than 50 others injured.
Mateen worked for a Department of Homeland Security contractor, a company that moves illegal aliens around the country. The FBI acknowledged that Mateen was on their Watch List. Or is it now called the Watch Until They Do Something List?
The FBI waited three hours before entering Pulse, the club, after they knew a lone gunman was involved. I wonder how many of those 50 bled to death while they waited? Will their death certificates list the cause of death as Political Correctness? We refuse to profile and deport dissidents, because those in power continue to curry favor of the Muslim Brotherhood and those who are drawn in. Mateen's parents are from Afghanistan and his wife from Uzbekistan.
On the political side of things, Donald Trump seized on the worst shooting in U.S. history to call for a more muscular response to Islamic terrorism.
Predictably, Hillary Clinton called for more curbs on guns. (Gun control is much stricter in Europe, but that hasn't stopped mass shootings like the ones at Charlie Hebdo's offices or at the Bataclan concert hall.) Hillary wants to bring in 5,000 more Syrians because it's "humanitarian." How many of those 5,000 are Mateen wannabees? No one knows and that's the problem. Trump says keep 'em out; I think he's on the right track.
In an address to the nation, President Obama made no reference to either ISIS or Islamic terror. His administration continues to bring in more lightly-vetted Muslims. Oh, he did call for more gun control. Of course.
Finally, in a futile and misguided gesture, the 'Hamilton' cast did not carry their prop firearms when they took to the stage at last night's oh-so-gay Tony Awards. The cast consciously decided not to use the musket props "during their highly-anticipated performance following the tragic mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando." I was surprised they didn't sing a chorus or two of 'Kumbaya'. Or use dildos instead of pistols at the Hamilton-Burr duel.
And the beat goes on. (posted 6/13/16, permalink)
Come To Think Of It, There Weren't Any Moderate Nazis, Either: Nonie Darwish wrote in Front Page Magazine, "Muslim legal systems in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Sudan and Yemen, do not hesitate to whip, amputate, stone and behead those who violate Islamic sexual taboos, but never behead, amputate or whip jihadists who terrorize in the name of Islam. Almost all Muslim governments claim to be moderate, but none have apologized for 9/11."
"There are approximately 1.5 billion Muslims divided among 49 majority Muslim nations around the world and all claim to be peace-loving and "moderate." Many of these Islamic nations have some of the largest and well-equipped armies in the Middle East and Africa. Pakistan possesses nuclear weapons. Egypt's military has approximately 468,500 active personnel, in addition 1 million reservists. Turkey has 662,719 active personnel. Saudi Arabia's military is estimated to have 150,000 active personnel and Pakistan has 550,000 active troops, 500,000 reserves.
Yet the huge armies of the above four Muslim nations are watching the ISIS slaughter and refuse to end it. Has anyone asked why?"
"The answer is simple and I hope the West is ready for the truth. If Muslim governments go to war against ISIS, there is a good possibility that their armies will not kill ISIS but might actually join them against Arab governments. This is why:
The ultimate holy goal of Islam, both "moderate" and "radical," is to reestablish the Islamic Caliphate and control the world. That is the goal of jihad. Historically all Islamic States were established by the sword, terror and violence. Even Mohammed himself established his first Islamic political entity in Arabia through the sword, violence and terror. Mohammed himself said in a hadith "I have been victorious through terror." His followers took the sword, terror and beheading throughout Arabia to bring Arabs back to Islam after the death of Mohammed. Historically, Islam never created and maintained a Caliphate without the sword and the cruel punishments of Sharia. So the fact that ISIS is violent does not disqualify it in the eyes of Sharia from doing holy jihad in the name of Allah.
Thus, Muslim heads of state are caught in a quagmire. Sharia dictates that every Muslim head of state must do jihad as an obligation otherwise he is an apostate and must be removed from office - the old fashioned Islamic way like what happened to Saddam Hussein and Moammar Gaddafi. Sharia also gives the right to Muslims to wage jihad war against non-Muslim nations, but gives non-Muslim nations no right to reject Islamic jihad and fight back."
"Muslim leaders do not want to be perceived as acting against Sharia by destroying the first budding Islamic State in Iraq and Syria."
Now you know why all we seem to get from Saudi Arabia et al is lip service. They are, after all, part of the Muslim caliphate, "an institution that conquered most of the known world of its day and at one time was the most influential institution in the world, is at war with the West. Brussels was an engagement in that struggle, the ultimate objective of which is the establishment of a worldwide caliphate, ruling every sacred and profane activity of every individual in the world. Osama bin Laden twice in 1996 and in 1998 followed appropriate Muslim custom by publicly declaring this war." (posted 4/11/16, permalink)
The Last Time I Saw Paris ... was during a vacation in 2001. I had been to the City of light a quarter century before and noticed three big differences on the 2001 trip:
1. Muslims were everywhere. Every one of them seemed to be jabbering on a cell phone. On my prior visit there were neither Muslims nor cell phones.
2. The view from the steps of Sacré-Cœur on Montmartre was still striking but it is now interrupted by hordes of Arab/Muslim youths peddling bottled water and pestering everyone.
3. It was a common sight in Metro stations to see Muslim women holding sickly, unconscious children while begging for money. We were told that the children were drugged so that they looked bad and would elicit sympathy.
Muslims contribute nothing to Paris - socially or economically. They live on the dole in their own violent ghettoes and refuse to assimilate. Riots are common as are attacks on non-Muslims by gangs of young thugs.
Then there are the ever-escalating purely terrorist acts such as the Toulouse massacre, this year's militant Islamist attack on 'Charlie Hebdo' and, now, Friday's coordinated multiple attacks which left over 120 dead and over 350 injured.
The Islamic State ISIS claimed responsibility Saturday for a "blessed battle" of revenge for Syria in the killings in multiple terror attacks. These coordinated attacks are the start of a new phase - the operation was sophisticated, and went entirely undetected by French intelligence. French president Francois Hollande promised a "ruthless" response. His declaration came shortly after the French government announced a state of emergency, curfew and the closure of France's borders.
Pope Francis issued a statement saying that the Paris attacks were part of a new, piecemeal, Third World War, a startling remark for this peace-loving, peace-seeking religious leader.
An ISIS statement said that "the American blood is best, and we will taste it soon," suggesting that attacks on Americans are coming. Meanwhile, clueless President Barack Obama has pledged to admit an additional 10,000 Syrian refugees in 2016. I would point out to Obama and his minions that over 3,000 Christians were martyred - murdered - last year, mostly by violent Muslims. I would also point out that two of the suicide bombers who caused carnage in the Paris massacre snuck into France posing as refugees from Syria.
The next Crusade may be coming soon as Western civilized nations get sick and tired of all the Muslim violence and terror bullshit, although it won't be called a crusade and won't happen until a certain pro-Muslim, anti-Christian coward is no longer occupying the Oval Office.
We will quietly offer sympathy to those Parisians in mourning. But we must also shout loudly, "Wake up, Christians. Wake up, Europe. Wake up, America. We are at war with pure evil." (posted 11/15/15, permalink)
Nearer To A Crusade? Gunmen have killed 12 people at the Paris office of French satirical magazine 'Charlie Hebdo' in a militant Islamist attack.
Four of the magazine's well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed, as well as two police officers, one of them Muslim. The masked attackers opened fire with assault rifles in the office and exchanged shots with police in the street outside before escaping by car. Witnesses said they heard the gunmen shouting "We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad" and "God is Great" in Arabic ("Allahu Akbar").
'Charlie Hebdo' is not, as described by at least one television anchor, "a French version of 'Mad' magazine." Zut alors! It is nothing of the kind. 'Charlie Hebdo' is much more course and anti-religious. It manages to combine left-wing radicalism with a provocative scurrility that often borders on the obscene. Other religions who get mocked by this rag - and 'Charlie Hebdo' bitingly mocks anything religious - simply shrug their shoulders and move on to better things.
I would also point out that any "prophet" who requires "avenging," can't be much of an admirable religious figure. And I would note that over 3,000 Christians were martyred - murdered - last year, mostly by violent North African Muslims.
The next Crusade may be coming soon as Western civilized nations get sick and tired of all the Muslim violence and terror bullshit, although it won't be called a crusade and won't happen until a certain pro-Muslim, anti-Christian coward is no longer occupying the Oval Office.
But there is a glimmer of hope: In a speech on New Year's Day at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, widely regarded as the leading world center for Islamic learning, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for a "religious revolution" in Islam that would displace violent jihad from the center of Muslim discourse.
"Is it possible that 1.6 billion people (Muslims worldwide) should want to kill the rest of the world's population - that is, 7 billion people - so that they themselves may live?" he asked. "Impossible." (posted 1/9/15, permalink)
Political Correctness Run Amok: Social workers failed to save 1,400 children - young white girls - from sexual exploitation in one English town because they were fearful of being called 'racists'. The abuse spanned a period of 16 years.
The Daily Mail article refers to the sex criminals as "Asian men," but the perps were not sex-crazed Japanese dudes, dressing up preteens in Sailor Moon costumes. No ... they were mostly Pakistani Muslims, beating, raping and swapping underage girls.
Front Page News reported, "No one knows the true scale of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham over the years. Our conservative estimate is that approximately 1,400 children were sexually exploited over the full inquiry period, from 1997 to 2013. In Rotherham the "majority" of known perpetrators were of Pakistani heritage, the report says, which led to police and council workers "tiptoeing" around the problem.
Some staff at the council were nervous about identifying the ethnic origins of the attackers for fear of being called racists. Others said they had clear direction from their managers not to do so."
Who knows how many other towns in the UK have taken the same "head in the sand" or "blindfolded burqa" attitude?
Gerard Van der Leuen has suggested that "at some point we are all of us in the West going to have to start killing these creatures wholesale. Nothing else will serve."
Perhaps it's time for a Second Crusade. (posted 9/2/14, permalink)
I Guess No Sexy Goats Were Available: A University of Washington neurobiology student is accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl he picked up in the University District has been charged with child rape.
Currently free after posting bond, UW Senior Omar Abdelbadie is alleged to have plied the girl with marijuana, brought her back to his apartment and had sex with her hours after they met. Abdelbadie, a 22-year-old Egyptian-born Muslim and member of CAIR "was described by prosecutors as a threat to community safety."
He has been charged with second-degree child rape and has lived in the U.S. for the past eight years.

Moo Payback: A Gaza health official reported that a panicking cow has killed a Palestinian man who was trying slaughter the beast during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha.
Muslims around the world slaughter sheep, cows and goats during the four-day holiday to commemorate the sacrifice by their forefather Abraham. But accidents are common as people frequently buy animals to slaughter at home instead of relying on professional butchers.
Another 150 more people were hospitalized in Gaza with knife wounds or other injuries caused by animals attacking butchers or bystanders.
I found this to be very mooooving story. And I think the folks at Chick-fil-A would be proud. (posted 10/31/12, permalink)
Dear United Nations: We returned from our latest vacation to find that, not only has Andy Williams croaked but the whole Middle East is on fire with anti-American protests and our ambassador to Libya has been murdered.
At some point in the future, I will take another break from blogging. Start building fallout shelters and printing militia money now.
As to those Muslim riots, our president - the black Neville Chamberlain - gave a speech at the U.N., gently wagging his anorexic finger at the various despots in attendance and warning meekly that "the future does not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam."
Sigh. Too bad I didn't invited to the U.N. Here's the speech I'd have given:
Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for being here. We appreciate your coming to America to spend your corrupt foreign cash at our many fine restaurants and other establishments. You can be sure that local maître d's, sous-chefs, valet parkers and pricey hookers appreciate your patronage. And the people of the U.S. are grateful for the inflow of funds which helps our trade balance.
We Americans are a decent people who live by our First Amendment - the one that protects freedom of speech. This is why the despicable Piss Christ artist has not been beheaded and why Larry Flynt and his gold wheelchair have not been thrown off the Empire State Building. As civilized people, we have learned to control our emotions and respect the laws we created.
On the other hand, when you kill Americans, murder our ambassador, attempt to violate the sanctity of embassy grounds and burn our flag allegedly because your panties are in a wad over some third-rate movie trailer, you've crossed the line with us.
Don't try to get all self-righteous, because our NSA records show that the two most downloaded videos in the Muslim world are '2 Girls, 1 Cup' and '2 Boys, 1 Goat'. Let's face it, you're a bunch of perverts who - except for cell phones, Toyota pickup trucks and RPGs - pretty much live in the 7th Century and worship a 7th Century perv. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You demand that all Jews be exterminated and want all women's genitalia mutilated. Then you want us to respect you. Pardon me while I and all Americans take a moment to laugh contemptuously at your ridiculous worldview and your abysmal moral values.
I will leave you with one question to ponder. We've decided to memorialize the slaying of our ambassador - not with a statue or cenotaph, but with a huge f**cking bomb crater. Where would you like us to drop the big one? (posted 9/27/12, permalink)
Boiiiiiiiing! So much for that Arab Spring nonsense. The Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Mohamed Morsi, was declared the winner in Egypt's possibly-rigged presidential election, defeating his opponent, who had been prime minister under Hosni Mubarak.
The clueless White House called Morsi's victory a "milestone in the country's transition to democracy." Meanwhile, Morsi proclaimed that Egypt's capital "shall be Jerusalem, Allah willing," indicating that he's got his own Hope & Change agenda. And not in a good way ... especially if you're Israel.
But ... but ... I thought Barack Hussein Obama was going to use his Inner Muslim cultural heritage to bring peace to the Middle East. Hmmmm. How's that workin' out for ya?
Who else besides me is starting to miss Mubarak?
Hosni, we hardly knew ye. (posted 6/25/12, permalink)
What, You're Surprised? The shooter in the Toulouse massacre was a guy named Mohammed.
He killed seven people in the last 10 days: a rabbi and three children at a Jewish school on Monday, and three soldiers of north African origin who had recently returned from Afghanistan in two earlier incidents.
"Mohammed Merah, the man believed to be the gunman on a scooter who killed seven people in south-western France, was a 24-year-old French citizen of Algerian extraction." French citizen? How can that be? He wouldn't surrender.
Merah was jailed for bombings in Afghanistan in 2007, but escaped months later in a mass prison break organized by Taliban insurgents. He had described himself as an Islamist warrior and member of the al-Qaeda network.
Connect the dots. (posted 3/23/12, permalink)
Nuke 'Em, Danno: Finding that Afghan terrorist captives used their copies of the Koran to pass messages to each other by scribbling scribble in the margins, our military correctly confiscated and destroyed these defaced books.
Muslim mobs expressed their outrage by rioting and killing U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, claiming that they are outraged by the burning of these Korans. Ironically, Muslims around the world have no problem burning the American flag, effigies of Americans and anything America-related. One sees this almost daily on news broadcasts. Muslims seem to be "outraged" about everything the West does.
That corrupt ingrate Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, demanded apologies, which he received from military, high-ranking government officials and the President of the U.S.
After all we've done for his country, I would have told him to pound sand.
Charles Krauthammer commented, "That was embarrassing, what we saw. We have gone from apology here to abject self-debasement and groveling. And groveling to whom? To the mob. We should have had a single apology coming from the commander on the ground and that's it. Not from the secretary of defense. Not from the president, of all people."
Kathy Shaidle has often written that "we should have nuked Afghanistan no later than 2:00 pm EST on September 11, 2001." Instead, we fought to free Afghanistan from the clutches of the Taliban and were rewarded last week by seeing four of our soldiers murdered by these 7th-Century bloodthirsty barbarians, while our Commander-in-Chief groveled to the very people who are killing our troops.
Can you imagine Franklin D. Roosevelt apologizing to the Japanese?

Shields Up: Following the death of 21 people in a Islamic terrorist bomb attack outside a Coptic church in Egypt, thousands of Muslims showed up at Coptic Christmas Eve Masses in churches around the country last week and at candle light vigils held outside.
"From the well-known to the unknown, Muslims had offered their bodies as 'human shields' for last night's mass, making a pledge to collectively fight the threat of Islamic militants and towards an Egypt free from sectarian strife."
Among those shields were movie stars Adel Imam and Yousra, popular preacher Amr Khaled, the two sons of President Hosni Mubarak, and thousands of citizens who have said they consider the attack one on Egypt as a whole.
"This is not about us and them," said Dalia Mustafa, a student who attended Mass at Virgin Mary Church on Maraashly. "We are one. This was an attack on Egypt as a whole, and I am standing with the Copts because the only way things will change in this country is if we come together." (posted 1/10/11, permalink)
Too Close To Home: On Friday night, a Somali-born 19 year-old was arrested as he tried to detonate a car bomb in a crowd of 12,000 at the Pioneer Square Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Portland, OR.
Mohamed Osman Mohamud is a naturalized U.S. citizen who has been living in Corvallis, OR and studying "non-degree pre-engineering" (whatever that is) at Oregon State University. He parked a van with six 55-gallon drums of fake explosives - provided by undercover FBI agents - next to Pioneer Square. Then he went to Union Station, an Amtrak stop - about a mile away, and used a cell phone to try to detonate it.
As he pushed the last button, Mohamud yelled "Allahu Akbar!" (Arabic for "God is great!") and tried to kick agents and police as the arrest came.
While there are many unanswered questions about possible co-consipirators and enablers, family involvement, who was funding his "education," etc., a big Well Done should go to the FBI and all other law enforcement organizations involved.
Mohamud came to the U.S. from Mogadishu while in grade school. He attended Jackson Middle School and Wilson High School in Portland before transferring to Westview High School in Beaverton, a western suburb.
Pioneer Square was full of children during the lighting ceremony and this could have been a ghastly and horrific tragedy.
This being Portland, the official name is 'Holiday' Tree Lighting Ceremony - not 'Christmas' - although Santa usually makes an appearance. Last year, he arrived in a Prius.
This near-terrorist incident brings home the reality of the threat - even outside the previously-targeted big, flashy cities - from people who hate us for who we are and how we live.
While Muslim spokesmen in in Oregon and southwest Washington have condemned Mohamud's actions and someone in the Islamic community apparently tipped the FBI to Mohamud's intentions, all of us are still waiting for the national Muslim community and organizations like CAIR to publicly and strongly denounce this attempted mass murder in the name of Allah.
At the moment, there are only tumbleweeds and the sound of crickets chirping. (posted 11/29/10, permalink)
Hiding Behind Religion: Unlike many nations, the United States believes in freedom of religion. However, we do not permit abusive cults and other violent, extremist organizations to use "religion" as a cover (Jim Jones, David Koresh, etc.).
Regarding Islam, Karl Denninger has asked, "Do you have a legitimate religion - that is, the worship of divinity and prayer for personal peace and enlightenment - when practitioners and priests of that religion threaten people with death for mere speech that they find "unbecoming" (or "blasphemous") toward their particular religious practice?
Or is the truth that you have, in point of fact, a war-based political movement that has co-opted the trappings and claims of religion as a shield from laws that, in the civilized world, would otherwise lead to immediate criminal sanction for the publication and dissemination of these threats?"
There are many cases in point - certainly the fatwas issued because of cartoons depicting Muhammad. Or the death threats against novelist Salman Rushdie. Or the the honor killings, mutilation Muslim women or the stonings of "sinners".
The most recent incident is the Ground Zero mosque and the subsequent intent of a fringe pastor to burn Korans at his church. We have been told by government officials, "Don't protest the Ground Zero mosque. Don't burn a Koran. It'll imperil the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It'll inflame tensions." Shari‘a-peddling imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has warned that the "Muslim World" will "explode" if it does not get its way. (While they're apparently prepared to "explode" if a single Koran is burned, Muslims around the world have no problem burning the American flag, effigies of Americans and anything America-related. One sees this almost daily on news broadcasts.)
It seems the "Muslim World" is always ready to explode about something or other. Have you ever seen a Muslim on television who is not angry about something? Where are all the happy Muslims? Why don't they speak out?
Have you ever seen a Muslim on TV who is not trying to blow something/someone up? Or burn it? Or issue a fatwa so some other angry Muslim will blow something/someone up as a proxy? Where are all the 'moderate' Muslims? Why don't they form an anti-extremist Tea Party-like movement?
William Katz has written, "In the last few weeks we have seen, once again, that Americans aren't the hickish dullards portrayed in leftist Hollywood movies and on the "prestigious" campuses of the northeast. Yes, they say, Muslims have a right to build their mosque near Ground Zero. But no, they say, it's an insensitive idea, and the group behind the mosque (and community center) should reconsider.
Yes, they say, that whacked-out pastor in Florida has the right to burn the Koran. But no, they say, it's a very bad and harmful thing to do, and shouldn't be done. The right is there, but it isn't right.
Contrast again please with the stunning comments by the imam behind the Ground Zero mosque, who said on TV over the weekend that if the mosque issue isn't handled "right," there could be repercussions around the world.
Where I come from, that's called blackmail, and Americans know it. I wish a reporter had confronted this chap with that word and asked his reaction."
Ultimately, as it is with every Middle-Easterner I've ever encountered, it's always about the money: "Hisham Elzanaty, an Egyptian-born businessman who says he provided a majority of the financing to gain control over the two buildings where an Islamic community center and mosque would be built, said he already has received offers for three times the $4.8 million price of the site."
In other words, "Bribe me."
Which brings up an interesting fact. For all their bribes, shari‘a banking, incoherent Al-Sadrian economic theories, 'geef-me-a-deal' bargaining, riba-condemning fiscal policies and souq-and-caravan economies, predominately-Muslim countries are the poorest on the planet. Instead of doing productive work, many Muslim nations are too busy manufacturing outrage and corruption. Or attempting to suppress the religious freedom of others. Or committing acts of terror.
We must not submit to Islam and we must not back down to a bunch of 7th Century, bloodthirsty barbarians.
In September 2001, America learned that radical Islam is at war with us. It's a war we must win.
Never forget. (posted 9/11/10, permalink)

The Truth About Islam: British writer Douglas Murray calls 'bullshit' on all the Religion of Peace crapola. And it's about time. Murray has written, "'Islam is a religion of peace.' That is what every Western leader says every time a Muslim sets something off.
They never tell us which ones they think are the violent religions. But for Islam it's a win-win. Knock down a tower and everyone in government says how terrific Islam is. Build a tower and everyone in government says how terrific Islam is. Either way it's a gain for Islam."
"Subway bombs? 'Peace.' Airline plots? 'Peace.' Car bombs? 'Peace.' It must be hard these days being a violent jihadi. No one in power believes what you say. It's just impossible to get your message across. The U.S. authorities are making the same mistakes, and in exactly the same order, as those that the British government has made. Violent Islam is the problem and therefore some other form of yet to be decided upon peaceful Islam is the solution. Either way, win for Islam. Whatever the question, the answer is 'Islam.'
In my experience this is a terrible mistake. The answer to violent Islam is not Islam. And contra every liberal pundit practicing their religion of peace and acceptance speech, building a mosque by ground zero is not a counter-argument to violent Islam. It is an apology, and an offering, to it. The answer to radical Islam is liberal, pluralistic, democracy."
Murray has noted, "When the pope comes to London next month, he is going to be greeted by substantial numbers of protests organized by people calling for his arrest and accusing him of the wildest hatreds. Yet we do not hear that critics of the pope are bigoted, 'Christianophobic.' ... But Islam is different. ... There are ... very sensible reasons to be fearful of many forms of Islam. Commuters in London and Madrid know why. As do Dutch filmmakers. And so do the numerous Muslim-born writers, artists, and musicians who spend their lives in hiding for fear of murder from their erstwhile co-religionists for 'crimes' like 'apostasy' and 'literary criticism'."
Then there's the proposed mega-mosque and Islamic community center next to Ground Zero, which President Obama has endorsed, indicating that he is either a fool or a Manchurian Candidate-style, anti-American Muslim tool - perhaps a Sharia Socialist. (Try to imagine Harry Truman authorizing the construction of a floating Benihana restaurant in the middle of Pearl Harbor in 1950.)
Bill Kristol has written that "9/11 was an attack on America, to which Americans have responded firmly, maturely, and appropriately. Part of our sensible and healthy reaction is that there shouldn't be a 13-story mosque and Islamic community center next to Ground Zero (especially when it's on a faster track to be built than the long-delayed memorial there). But Obama doesn't feel he even has to engage the arguments against the mosque - because he regards his fellow citizens as emotionally traumatized victims, not citizens who might have a reasonable point of view."
It should be noted that non-Muslims are not allowed any place of worship in Saudi Arabia, they cannot even approach within miles of the cities of Medina and Mecca.
Sarah Palin bluntly asked Obama, "Mr. President, should they or should they not build a mosque steps away from where radical Islamists killed 3000 people? Please tell us your position. We all know that they have the right to do it, but should they? And, no, this is not above your pay grade.
If those who wish to build this Ground Zero mosque are sincerely interested in encouraging positive "cross-cultural engagement" and dialogue to show a moderate and tolerant face of Islam, then why haven't they recognized that the decision to build a mosque at this particular location is doing just the opposite?"
Muslim Appeasement is becoming one of the signature trademarks of the current administration.
Douglas Murray concluded, "For Muslims, the answer to radical Islam may well be some nice official version of Islam that hasn't yet been discovered. But for free and open societies, the answer to radical Islam is not Islam. It is free and open societies. It doesn't matter what Muslims believe, anymore than anybody else. But it matters how they behave." (posted 8/18/10, permalink)
Sure 'n Begorrah ... lovely old Times Square in New York was almost blown up in early May 2010 by mad, lonely Irish Catholic Tea Partier Thomas McSorley, who was angry about health care and illegal immigration. This is a striking blow to our Hibernian-American president, Barry O'Bama, who has spent two years reaching out to his Catholic brethren all over the world. Mayor Bloomberg's guess that the failed bomber would turn out to be "homegrown, or maybe a mentally deranged person, or somebody with a political agenda that doesn't like the health care bill or something" was almost dead on.
Oh, wait.
Turns out that it wasn't one of those scary, aging Tea Party people. Not disgruntled 62 year-old Tommy McSorley but Faisal Shahzad, a 30 year-old Pakistani native, who recently returned from a five-month trip to the tribal region of Waziristan near the Afghan border, where he keeps a wife and/or a goat. Faisal was trying to flee the United States and was headed for Dubai when he was apprehended by federal customs agents.
Time magazine has reported that Faisal had "returned to the U.S. in February after spending a number of months in Pakistan, where he traveled after becoming a naturalized American in April 2009. Pakistani media are reporting that Shahzad is from Karachi and spent significant time in Peshawar, the capital of North-West Frontier Province, where the government is waging a fierce war against Taliban militants."
A Pakistani government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Time that the suspect had ties with militants while in Pakistan. "He was here at a training camp," the source said. The source also claimed that members of Shahzad's family were arrested in Karachi.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has made sure that Faisal was read his Miranda rights. Hmmmm. Was it in English? Or Urdu?
Mark Steyn has observed, "Whenever something goofy happens - bomb in Times Square, mass shootings at a US military base, etc. - there seem to be two kinds of reactions:
a) Some people go, "Hmm. I wonder if this involves some guy with a name like Mohammed who has e-mails from Yemen."
b) Other people go, "Don't worry, there's no connection to terrorism, and anyway, even if there is, it's all very amateurish, and besides he's most likely an isolated extremist or lone wolf."
Unfortunately, everyone in category (b) seems to work for the government."
Our clueless Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, has repeatedly ... (more >>>)
I Never Met Any Episcopalians With Sudden Jihad Syndrome: In early November 2009, a radical Mormon Army officer, shouting "Joseph Smith rules!" committed the worst act of terror on American soil since 9/11.
No, wait - he wasn't a Mormon ... he was a Muslim. But you shouldn't draw any conclusions from that, we are told. It could have been anybody ... perhaps a even wild-eyed Presbyterian, firing handguns and yelling, "We love John Calvin!" Yeah, that's happened before.
I offer my condolences to the families of the 13 soldiers who were murdered as well as the 38 who were injured. This Muslim mass-murderer (after shouting "Allahu Akbar!") killed many more Americans than were killed by the Muslim mass-murderers who bombed the World Trade Center in 1993.
No U.S. government official nor mainstream media editor wants to call this an act of terror or associate it with Islam. (Although, when someone bombs an abortion clinic, it's always assumed that he must be one of those "crazy fundamentalist Christians.") The President His-Own-Self has cautioned Americans "not to leap to conclusions."
OK. Let's look at the facts. The Fort Hood rampage is a continuation of a number of recent violent incidents - arrests in Texas, Illinois, Colorado, New Jersey and New York for planned or contemplated terrorist acts. There have been others since 9/11 - a "deranged" Muslim breaking into a Jewish community center in Seattle and killing one worker and injuring six others; another "misguided" Muslim running down students at the University of North Carolina, the notorious Muslim Beltway Shooter, the murder of an American soldier by a fellow soldier, a Muslim, just before the Iraq War, the shooting of an Army recruiter in Arkansas, and the killing of an agent at an Israeli airline counter in Los Angeles. See any trend here?
The Fort Hood Jihadist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, had reportedly been reprimanded for "proselytizing about his Muslim faith with patients and colleagues" and had posted suspicious items on the internet six months ago. He's an Army officer, yet nothing was done about his odd behavior and actions.
Let's start correcting this mess immediately. Begin by allowing all military personnel to carry sidearms on base. Give Hasan a speedy military trial (treason, terrorism, multiple counts of murder - pick one or pick 'em all) and execute him. Arrest any other soldiers who make remarks sympathetic to our enemies and charge them with treason. Initiate a program of Terrorist Profiling and start checking out every suspicious Muslim in this country.
Political correctness killed those patriotic Americans at Fort Hood as surely as the Islamist gunman did. (posted 11/9/09, permalink)

Daphne Klink of Jaded Haven speaks for many: "I find myself increasingly repulsed by Muslim practices and beliefs. Middle Eastern, African, Asian, American, the country of origin makes no difference.
Women and children treated as chattel, genital mutilation, child brides, honor killings, culturally accepted pedophilia, the black drapes and head coverings, no rights, no votes, little to non-existent educational opportunities, no voice, no choices, no recourse.
Persecution of homosexuals. Imprisonment, stoning and whipping for morality crimes.
Lack of free speech.
The foul treatment of non-Muslims in Islamic countries.
The demented hatred of Jews. ... Islam pisses on human talents that fall outside the dark walls of its faith.
Hell, I even dislike their dislike of dogs." (hat tip: American Digest)

But, Gosh, They Invented Chess. This outstanding and insightful article by Farooq Sulehria is most definitely worth a read.
Excerpt: "The Amnesty International report on human rights for the year 2007 is out. The Muslim world constitutes, as usual, bleakest chapter. Every single country across the Muslim world has been pointed out by the Amnesty International either for executions and torture or discrimination against women and ethnic and religious minorities. Punishments never handed down even during the Stone Age have been awarded in 21st century Muslim world. In one case, two Saudi nationals were awarded 7,000 lashes. Yes, 7,000. And executions? Well, 335 in Iran, 158 in Saudi Arabia and 135 in Pakistan. Violation of human rights, it seems, is the only thing that unites the otherwise divided Muslim world."
More: ".... it is either Bangladesh or Pakistan or Nigeria which is on top of Transparency International's corruption indexes. However, when Nobel laureates gather in Stockholm every December, Muslim scientists and writers are conspicuous by their absence. ... When all else fails, "Jews" and "Christian" West are there to lay the blame for all our ills."
And: "Every time a scientist in the West is ready with an invention, our readymade answer is: we knew about it 1,400 years ago what the West has found only now. We kill Theo van Gogh when confronted with a film. We burn down our own cities in response to a blasphemous and racist caricature. Still, we refuse to understand that our answer to every "provocation" is either a fatwa or mindless violence perhaps because creativity is anathema to us. Not because we lack fertile minds, but because we lack liberation and freedom - liberation from self-imposed mental, moral, and cultural censors. And freedom to think and express." Celebrities - They Seem To Know Everything About Evil: Yusuf Islam, the British 'singer' known as Cat Stevens before his conversion to Islam and name change to something less pronounceable, has criticized Pope Benedict XVI, calling him ''evil and inhuman.''
Stevens is the same self-absorbed jerk who called for the death of Salman Rushdie, requesting his head on a plate with a side of fatwa. And Stevens' Muslim "charity work" probably funnels significant bucks to terrorists. Our government seems to think so.
I never cared for Stevens' trite little musical ditties and, in the 1970s, would usually change radio stations whenever they were played. (Just like I did in the '80s, whenever The Judds were on the air. But that's a different kettle of lard entirely.)
Moonshadow, my ass.
As a Catholic, I'm not supposed to advocate violence against those who diss my religion. (Unlike a certain misguided faith, whose name begins with 'I'.) Nevertheless, I would find it amusing if the deplorable Mr. Stevens got unlucky enough to get run over by, say, a Peace Train. With a drunken Billy Joel as the engineer. Or Joe Hazelwood.

Those Who Would Slaughter Us: Shelby Steele has written an insightful article about the Islamic extremism.
Excerpt: "If this war makes anything clear, it is that Israel can do nothing to appease the Muslim animus against her. And now much of the West is in a similar position, living in a state of ever-heightening security against the constant threat of violence from Islamic extremists. So here, from the Muslim world, comes an unappeasable hatred that seems to exist for its own sake, a hatred with very little actual reference to those it claims to hate. Even the fighting of Islamic terrorist groups is oddly self-referential, fighting not for territory or treasure but for the fighting itself. Standing today in the rubble of Lebanon, having not taken a single inch of Israeli territory, Hezbollah claims a galvanizing victory."
Steele notes that "Islamic extremists don't hate the West because they are oppressed by it. They hate it precisely because the end of oppression and colonialism - not their continuance - forced the Muslim world to compete with the West. Less oppression, not more, opened this world to the sense of defeat that turned into extremism." (posted 9/1/06, permalink)
Revisionist History: The Archbishop of Denver has spoken out against it, noting: "Islam has embraced armed military expansion for religious purposes since its earliest decades. .... Much of the modern Middle East was once heavily Christian. Muslim armies changed that by imposing Islamic rule. Surviving Christian communities have endured centuries of marginalization, discrimination, violence, slavery and outright persecution - not always and not everywhere; but as a constant, recurring and central theme of Muslim domination.
That same Christian suffering continues down to the present. In the early years of the 20th century, the Muslim Ottoman Empire murdered more than 1 million Armenian Christians for ethnic, economic, but also religious reasons. Many Turks and other Muslims continue to deny that massive crime even today. Coptic Christians in Egypt - who, even after 13 centuries of Muslim prejudice and harassment, cling to the faith - continue to experience systematic discrimination and violence at the hands of Islamic militants.
Harassment and violence against Christians continue in many places throughout the Islamic world, from Bangladesh, Iran, Sudan, Pakistan and Iraq, to Nigeria, Indonesia and even Muslim-dominated areas of the heavily Catholic Philippines. In Saudi Arabia, all public expressions of Christian faith are forbidden. The on-going Christian flight from Lebanon has helped to transform it, in just half a century, from a majority Christian Arab nation to a majority Muslim population.
These are facts. The Muslim-Christian conflict is a very long one, rooted in deep religious differences, and Muslims have their own long list of real and perceived grievances. But especially in an era of religiously inspired terrorism and war in the Middle East, peace is not served by ignoring, subverting or rewriting history, but rather by facing it humbly as it really happened and healing its wounds.
That requires honesty and repentance from both Christians and Muslims.
Comments like those reported in the recent news story I read - claiming that historically, it was European Christians, never Muslims, who tried to root out those who disagreed with them - are both false and do nothing to help." (posted 8/23/06, permalink)
Jihad In Seattle: You've read/heard about the July 2006 shooting at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle on Third Avenue in the Emerald City's downtown. The gunman a 30 year-old Pakistani Muslim, Naveed Afzal Haq, who was upset about "what was going on in Israel." So, he calmly walked into the Jewish Center and shot six unarmed women with his semi-automatic 9-mm handgun. One has died. All others were hospitalized; three arrived in critical condition.
Terrorists always seem to go after women, children and the elderly, don't they? Especially if they think the victims are unarmed and unprepared. So, Haq joins the list of evil cowards, who will be portrayed - at some point - as a poor misguided fellow who has had a tough life and is, himself, a victim. The catch phrase "mental problems" was uttered less than two hours after the shooting.
Lest anyone think that Haq was some impoverished unfortunate, I would point out he was driving a late-model Mazda B-series pickup truck. I watched the police tow it away from a pay parking garage. He either had a pretty good job or was well-funded.
This is not a 'lone wacko' isolated incident. There have been many worrisome problems in the Pacific Northwest since 9/11. For example, two years before, prosecutors filed assault and extortion charges against individuals associated with an Islamic religious school run out of a South Seattle barbershop. The school was "training children ... in Anti American rhetoric," and "how to shoot and fight the Americans."
Jihad Watch notes that if Haq "has no ties to Al-Qaeda, Hamas, or Hezbollah, officials will hasten to assure us that this was not a terrorism-related murder. After all, non-Muslims go on killing sprees, don't they? Of course; but until officials address the ideology that fuels killings such as this, there will be a peculiarly high occurrence of "random" incidents such as this in which the one who "snaps" is, coincidentally, a Muslim who believes deeply in jihad warfare."
Hugh Hewitt has written, "Any crime of violence done to avenge a political grievance is an act of terrorism. Haq's murder of at least one employee of the Jewish Federation is an act of terrorism."
Imagine if, in the 1970s, IRA sympathizers began attacking Episcopalians in the U.S. - shooting up women's bible study groups and the like. I can assure you that the Ancient Order Of Hibernians would have called a press conference and denounced the scum. Harsh anti-IRA screeds would have poured forth from pulpits in every Catholic Church in America. The press would have been invited in to record such proclamations. Any and all 'pass-the-hat' covert funding for "the poor lads over there" would immediately have dried up.
Fast forward to today. What's the Muslim community doing? Not much. Where are the cries of outrage? Why hasn't CAIR called a press conference? Why haven't the scum in the midst of the Muslim community been exposed by its own members shining the light of truth upon such human excrement?
This shooting incident is another example of terrorism in our midst.
I hope that the fine Jewish ladies on Third Avenue start packin' heat.
Because the world's goin' to Hell. And Hell has arrived in the state of Washington. (posted 7/29/06, permalink)
Learning From History: Salim Mansur, a professor of political science at the University of Western Ontario and a syndicated columnist in Canada, has written, "Following the London bombings a year ago, I asked in this space how long the civilized world would continue to deny the reality of a war declared on it by modern day al-Qaida bandits and their global affiliates? ...
Islamists have succeeded this far in turning the strength of democracies to their advantage. They have exploited the restraint of modern civilization that opts in criminal justice for proportionality, restitution and rehabilitation as evidence of guilt and weakness.
Islamists declared war on the modern world much before September 11, 2001. But the modern world - despite President George Bush's leadership and effort since 9/11 - opted instead to study the neuroses of Islamists, discover root causes of their depravity, offer palliatives by acknowledging their grievances as legitimate, and view the warfare launched by them merely as a problem of domestic law and order."
Salim offers a solution based on history, noting, "The time is long past to wait upon a corrupt and cynical United Nations to devise a response that should have been prompted by 9/11." (posted 7/18/06, permalink)
Intifada Interruptus: A series of terrorist attacks plotted against unspecified targets in southern Ontario, Canada was stopped when police rounded up 17 terrorists caught with triple the amount of explosives that McVeigh used to blow up Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
These terrorists have first names like Fahim, Zakaria, Asad, Shareef, Qayyum, Mohammed, Yasim, Jahmaal, Amin, Ahmad, Saad were arrested. No one named Tom, Mary, Tony, Kevin, Sue or Jessica seems to be involved. Nor anyone named Bob or Doug.
Canadian Kathy Shaidle writes passionately about the foiled terrorist plot, "Regardless of whether or not immigration built this country, it may now destroy it.
If you persist in believing all your "Heritage Moment" pieties you are a delusional coward. Female fetuses are being selectively aborted, buildings are targeted for destruction, elected officials are harassed by "refugee rights" activists, innocent bystanders are being shot by gangs because we refuse to acknowledge that all cultures are not created equal and not everyone can be allowed into our country."
And: "Liberal guilt and decades of brainwashing has blinded even the best of us. And it will cost you the very culture you so cherish. Dear "socially liberal" conservatives: There will be no "gay marriage" under sharia. All those "cute" exotic cafes will be riddled with bullets. Your daughters will wear burquas. Secular humanism will not save you - it is in fact the very cause of our problem."
She concludes: "For once in your life, get mad about something." Amen, Kathy. All of us - Canadians and Americans - need to get mad ... and stay mad. (posted 6/5/06, permalink)
Go Fix Yourselves: Dr. Ahmad Al-Baghdadi, a reformist Kuwaiti intellectual and political science lecturer at Kuwait University, has argued that the Muslims themselves - not bin Laden - are responsible for the rising hatred against them around the world.
He has noted that Muslims living in the West have failed to repay the kindness of the countries that accepted them and instead, have followed the lead of the Muslim clerics and threatened to attack these countries from within. He adds that Muslims in the West must declare that they accept Western values and sever their ties with Muslims in the East, and with the religious clerics.
Excerpt: "Osama bin Laden didn't force anyone to go to Iraq, murder its people and destroy its institutions. He didn't force anyone to murder innocent people in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, America and Europe. Bin-Laden did not tell the Muslims in the West: 'Hate the country that gave you shelter when you fled [from your homelands], made you rich when you were poor, fed you when you were hungry, gave you freedom after the bondage you suffered in your Muslim countries, and educated you when you were ignorant." Punished For Truthfulness: A Catholic priest in Belgium is to be tried for "hate crimes". The priest, who fled from Turkey to Belgium under Islamic persecution, made this "offending" statement: "Every thoroughly islamized Muslim child that is born in Europe is a time bomb for Western children in the future. The latter will be persecuted when they have become a minority."
After hearing of his upcoming trial, the popular priest repeated his statement and warned against "the islamic invasion" of the West. (posted 4/3/06, permalink)
A Memorable Quote came from the Daily Demarche: "We have been told repeatedly that Islam is not the enemy - it is only that the enemy is Islamic. Fine. And of course the Germans living outside the camps six decades ago had no idea what that awful smell was, either. We, the Allies, heaped generations of shame on the Germans - with the result that it is highly unlikely that the fringe anti-Semitic German political groups will ever gain power again.
Today, however, we tiptoe around the idea that all Muslims share the responsibility to put an end to the ideals of hatred that lead to terrorist attacks. Muslims in New York, Washington, Madrid, London, Bali and on and on - are quick to assure us that none of them have any idea where that horrible smell is coming from today, and they do not seem too interested in finding out." Gitmo Griping: I am sooooo sick and tired of people carping about the "inhumane" conditions at Guantanamo Bay. These are the best-treated POWs in the history of mankind.
Dinner selections at this "prison" include Baked Tandoori Chicken Breast, Mustard-Dill Baked Fish, Lyonnaise Rice and Fish Amandine. Ann Coulter provided this saddening quip: "Sounds like the sort of thing you'd get at 'Windows on the World' if it still existed." I'm sure these meals are an improvement over the gourmet fare these terrorists and wanna-bees experience at home - sun-dried goat.
If I were running the place, I'd be serving be nuttin' but pulled pork on Jewish Rye. Every day. (But then, wasn't it the Eagles who sang, "You can't hide your Lyonnaise"?)
On the subject of Gitmo, Christopher Hitchens has observed, "I should very much like to know how a Gore administration would have dealt with the hundreds of foreign sadists taken in arms in Afghanistan. I should also like to know how other Western governments, which are privately relieved that the United States assumed responsibility for the last wave, expect to handle the next wave of fundamentalist violence in their own societies. No word on this as yet." I'd like to know, too. And: "The man whose story of rough interrogation (at Gitmo) has just been published in Time had planned to board a United Airlines flight and crash it into a skyscraper. I want to know who his friends and contacts were ..."
Speaking of torture, put things in perspective by reading about "the German chair" here.
Meanwhile, Joe Katzman has written: "... if respecting the terrorists' Islamic beliefs is so critically important, and we can't just wrap them in pigskin, deny them prayer ("why? you're not a real Muslim anyway") and inter them with dogs - does that mean these guys are the true Islam after all, bonafide believers rather than the hijackers of a religion as they are relentlessly portrayed? Because that's certainly the implication.
... It seems like an odd set of messages to send: you tell the outside world that terrorists are authentic Muslims, and in the same move you tell your own people that all this "religion of peace" stuff is complete b.s. Maybe you have to be a liberal to understand." And: "Under Islamic law, non-Muslims are deemed unfit to touch the Quran. According to the Islamic law, we are unclean. ... That means the Christian, the Jew, the unbeliever in Islam - and, chances are, the Gitmo guard.
In effect, then, with its official policy of clean cloves and detainee towels, the United States military is promoting, enabling and accepting the Islamic concept of najis - the unclean infidel - a barbarous notion that has helped fuel the bloodlust of jihad and the non-Muslim subjugation of dhimmitude. Our soldiers are many things: self-sacrificing, bold, loyal and true. They are not unclean."
Finally: "James Taranto of the Wall St. Journal foolishly calls this "magnanimity." Tell me, if we capture Aryan Nations terrorists, will black troops all have to say "yas massah" to them, avoid making eye contact, and refuse to touch them - in the name of magnanimity? This is insanity." Yep. (posted 6/21/05, permalink)
Holiday Whine: Many years ago, I was on a committee to pick future show/meet dates for a national car club. We began by crossing off all national, Christian and Jewish holidays. Then we eliminated the 'bad weather months' - when snow or rain might be a consideration. Then we eliminated those dates which conflicted with other car-related events - Pebble Beach, Meadowbrook, etc. We ended up with a narrow window of time between mid-May and early-October.
Later, I received an angry letter from a Muslim fellow who complained that we had scheduled a major event during a Muslim holy day. I replied, asking him to provide us with dates of Muslim significance for the next four years so we could avoid future conflicts. (Muslim holidays were never listed in those 'Future Planner' sections of DayRunners, etc.) I also invited him to join our planning committee.
He never responded - just liked to write angry letters, I guess.
I think of him every time I read about CAIR - the Council on American-Islamic Relations. That organization also seems to revel in whining rather than accomplishing anything positive. (posted 4/28/05, permalink)
